Happy Birthday, JoePa

Joe Paterno turns 85 today.

Past Penn State football players have started a petition here in support of Joe and Penn State.  It's an interesting read.  A great video about Penn State, entitled WeSTILLare, can be found here.  A Penn State Alumnus posted an open letter to the world here, explaining what Penn State pride means today.

Bellefonte- 12.13.11

Since my favorite study spots have been busy lately, I left State College this morning to study for my last final.  I headed to Bellefonte, PA  and stumbled upon a circus.  Today was the first day of Jerry Sandusky's hearing, which took place at the courthouse in Bellefonte.  The downtown area was closed to public traffic and swarming with news vans and media.

Some business decided to close for the day.  Others opened early.

Cheers,

We Are...Penn State!

The last month has been an interesting one in Penn State's history.  "We Are.. Penn State" is a common cheer on campus, which has taken on a whole new meaning, as the school begins to explore its past...and determines its future.

I won't share my thoughts on the situation here, but below are images, mostly from the week following the scandal breaking.  Here's what I saw, from a student's perspective.

Students camped out for first row seat in the student's section.  This tent city has been referred to as "Paternoville."

First game after the scandal...and the first game since 1966 without Joe Pa as head coach.

Penn State and the visiting team, Nebraska, intermingle on the field.

The Penn State Student Section "S" was accompanied by a "Stop Child Abuse" ribbon to the left

There was a heavy police presence at the game.  A bomb threat was also reported.

Tailgating!  Notice that these are not actually parking lots, but fields marked with spots for tailgating.

Network Names

One entertaining thing about living in a college town is all the interesting wifi names.  There is a mix of funny, random, and a little weird.  Enjoy...

A little passive aggressive...
